Update: Attic Space

I’m happy to report that we were able to get back into the house to take some definite measurements and were also able to get up into the attic this time.

At first we couldn’t get the attic access panel to open, it would move but not pop up. I was envisioning a dead body holding it down. I didn’t notice this until today but one of the bedrooms had a padlock and latch on the outside of the door, thought that was strange. Wonder what they were keeping locked up in there, hmmm.  Lucky for us the object blocking the attic access was just a pipe in the way of the door and not an unsolved murder.

The attic is everything we were hoping it would be! It has a 7′ 6″  head clearance which means our original plan of turning it into the master bedroom with master bath is going to work. Yes! So happy about that. I was really worried that if it turned out that it wasn’t going to work that we’d have to suffer in a 9′ x 9′ bedroom on the main floor. If you ask me that’s not even a bedroom, that’s more like a big closet. A bedroom that measures 22′ x 20′ sure sounds a heck of a lot nicer doesn’t it?

There is only one window up in the attic that has plywood over it so it was pretty dark up there. I managed to take a couple dimly lit photos though.

Looks like we have some treasures to dig through up there. I see a vacuum from like 1970, anyone want it, it’s vintage!

22 days, 18 hours, 52 minutes and counting…

Wow, an attic. Lucky you. Our house is a one and a half story house so no attic. I would have loved to have an attic fan but that wasn’t possible.
I’m counting the days right along with you. Excitement building!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, I have a cabin in Alaska. Actually it is log and is a 16×20 with a upstairs. The roof is a 4 10, I think. with pony wall about 2 feet high. The window is in each end of the the room. I need Ideas. Right now we have the bed in the end of the room. Just not space to move it. I think we will try to put it on one of the slopping walls with no headboard and footboard. I am thinking we will bump our heads a million times. Just don’t know what to do. We have to do the walls they are currently plywood and the floor is also plywood. We don’t have much money to work with. If you have ideas please suggest please.
