I agree with you on lilacs....Mine are blooming right now and I have cut bunches to place around the house and at work so I can be surrounded by their splendid aroma. Problem is I am less then thrilled by it's appearance after the blooms have gone. I would definitely go with the weeping cherry. I love weeping anything, they just add such a nostalgic, romantic, peaceful feeling for me. My vote is the weeping cherry. Actually, now I want one.

This is a neat idea. Yeah the wooden raised beds we have here are falling all apart! And you could even plant things in the holes of the cinder blocks potted plant style.

May I suggest a pool pump for future? Or a pond pump from Harbor Freight? Not too expensive, not super powerful (pond pump from HF) but can usually pump from 1/2" deep water. I bought one for my Brother in Law when we had some epic flooding. I luckily had received pump purchased at a yard sale many years ago that runs like a champ. Also, a small pool/pond pump is very useful if your top load washing machine ever gives up the ghost with a tub full of water.

Green onions, bell peppers, and I haven't started my pole beans yet.
Perennial we have strawberries, papayas as long as they last, bananas, passion fruit, avocados, coffee, cloves (is there s 'hide' emoticon here?). I have given up on snow peas because we never get much out of them and as expensive as they are to buy, the seeds are too.
